Good evening,
I’m attempting to setup a BF3 VU dedicated server on a 2nd machine, and I installed BF3 via SteamCMD. EA starts up just fine when I try to start BF3, however, EA tells me that it cannot find the game. VU as well told me that it cannot find the installed game, and I wasn’t sure where to go from where I am now.
I could always install steam, download, install, hope the system doesn’t explode upon initial launch (it’s a tiny and feeble server box, it’s only here to run dedi servers :P) and see if that fixes it. Probably my easiest option. However, I’d prefer it if I could use the SteamCMD install, and get things working without a full/proper steam install going, as well as not needing EA installed either would be best. More work, if it’s even possible, but, my preferred course of action.
I have been looking at the forums, and there might be a possible idea or 2 I could test, but nothing I’m too sure on yet.
Thank you for your time,

game license? get rid of EA app dude… https://youtu.be/HUB4W0qLHv8 be sure to move bf3 to orgin games folder if this is the problem youre having…that part is not in the tutorial
Good evening,
So, to give a full reply;
-Yes it’s a legit copy, using my steam login for SteamCMD, to which I have a bought license.
-Thank you for the link, it’s been helpful, at least with using origin instead. However, still the same issue, Origin cannot find the game install, nor VU. Origin, VU, and BF3 are in origin’s default locations.
I’m starting to think that installing Bf3 via SteamCMD does not give the proper registry/keys/installs it requires to be properly found/register as installed.
Good afternoon,
The issue can be considered resolved.
After much asking and scouring, it seems the initial BF3 install will not work if using SteamCMD, and that was the source of my issues, including EA not finding the install. The matter has been fixed, and can be closed.
Have a good day,
