EA Play and VU

I have a buddy who wants to play VU, but he uses EA Play sub on PC.

Would he have any trouble launching VU if he uses the subscription version of BF3 or would it still be a legit copy?

I have tried searching the forums and online, but have not come across anything related, so if this has been asked my apologies.
