ESCape key doesn't work while in game

I booted up VU and joined a Ziba Tower server.

I ran the game in full screen and wanted to change some settings.

ESC key (and all other modifier keys) didn’t do anything, couldn’t get a menu up !??

Some servers might be running mods that break the UI in mysterious ways. If you want to get out of a server like that you can open the console using the ~ key, type in dc or disconnect, and hit enter.
